A day in the life of a Improvement and Effectiveness Support Manager in the United Kingdom
Courses taken since graduation
Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Audit and Effectiveness in Health and Social Care
Where I hope to be in 5 years
Applied to study medicine - working in a hospital has made me realise that I really want to be a doctor.
My advice to students considering work
Talk to people in the role that you are applying for to discuss the job and what it involves. Their contact details are there for a reason - people who contact the manager advertising a job will not lose anything by ringing and often are placed at a huge advantage.
What I do
Working with doctors, nurses, managers and other professionals on projects to improve the quality of care for patients at the hospital.
Working with doctors, nurses, managers, finance, IT etc. discussing the hospital's compliance with National Guidance. Working out where our practice falls short of the national standard and finding ways to improve.
Skills I use and how I developed them
ILIAD Computer skills - needed evidence that I could work with computers to get through the shortlisting stage. Internship at a think tank.
Degree skills:
Discussion, constructing arguments, logical thinking.
What I like most
The end result - care for patients is improved as a result of the work that we do.
What I like least
The amount of paperwork.
What would I change? Put more effort into applications, taken the time to speak to people already doing the jobs that I applied for.
