A day in the life of a Marketing Operations Manager in the United Kingdom
Courses taken since graduation
MSc in Management at Imperial College London
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I will complete the graduate scheme this September and will look to get promoted.
My advice to students considering work
I'd say a placement year in industry would help a lot in finding a job in the current climate - I never took one and regret not having done so.
What I do
Currently I'm in the third rotation of the graduate scheme, in the Marketing team for the launch of Barclaycard Freedom, the biggest project in Barclaycard in 15 years and the largest loyalty scheme in the UK. My job involves working with external marketing and mobile agencies and internal stakeholders to develop the mobile channel for Freedom.
Skills I use and how I developed them
My postgraduate degree, MSc in Management, helped.
Degree skills:
Research skills helped - things such as writing a dissertation as there is research involved in my job and putting together presentations etc.
Extracurricular skills:
Through extracurricular activities at York like team work.
What I like most
The innovation side of it.
What I like least
Some repetitive tasks that do need to happen for policy/compliance reasons.
What would I change? Nothing - it's been great.
