My advice to students considering work
Explore the different avenues available and what further study / graduate jobs are available.
What I do
I am a class teacher in a class of 7-9 year olds and also work as part of a team of staff in a middle sized primary school. I deal with statistics on a day to day basis and coordinate other members of staff. The job involveds long hours and working in my own time as well.
Skills I use and how I developed them
PGCE and York Students in Schools (YSIS) experience
Degree skills:
Mathematical skills, people skills, ICT, child psychology.
Extracurricular skills:
YSIS volunteering.
What I like most
The creativeness and the unpredictability of the children.
What I like least
Targets and statistics.
What would I change? I would have considered other graduate jobs before jumping into teaching.
