A day in the life of a Analyst - Global Finance in the United Kingdom
Courses taken since graduation
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
What I do
I joined BarCap on the finance graduate scheme, which involved three one year rotations and studying towards CIMA (an accounting qualification for business). I will soon be moving into a permanent position with the bank, within the Business Intelligence team. The main function of the team is to help the business make decisions about their cost base and how they structure their business. This involves ad-hoc modelling, scenario planning and analysis of historic spend that enables business managers to understand the financial implications of their decisions.
Skills I use and how I developed them
I did a summer internship between 2nd and 3rd year at university with KPMG Corporate Finance.
Degree skills:
Economics/Finance trains your mind to critically assess and think about problems in a logical manner.
What I like most
No daily tasks, ad-hoc nature of the role. I work with smart, like-minded, driven people. Good social scene. Very good money.
What I like least
The hours are long and working in a huge bureaucracy can sometimes be frustrating.
