A day in the life of a Financial Officer in China
My career history
After I completed my course in York, I returned to Shanghai in around June 2009, and I worked in marketing. I started my current job of financial officer in around June 2010 until now.
My advice to students considering work
For the financial graduates, I think they should gain some professional work experience by taking an internship in the UK, such as working as a assistant accountant rather than taking some general part-time jobs.
What I do
Working as a financial officer, not only am I responsible for accounting and petty cash management, I also work on cost control, financial planning and budget management for my company.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Degree skills:
What I learned from my course was very broad concepts about finance and management, however it is quite different from my current job because the accounting and financial system varies significantly between China and the UK.
What I like most
Unlike my previous marketing job, I don't have to always travel around and build up connections with different people, which I find it enjoyable.
