A day in the life of a Financial Planning and Analyst in China
My career history
After I completed my course in 2008, I returned to Shanghai and worked in business development in a bank for more than a year. Currently I am working as a Financial Planning and Analyst in a manufacturing company in Shanghai.
My advice to students considering work
To get an ideal job, students should grasp every chance to have the interview, as this will help to improve their interview skills and their performance will become better and better. For example, I had over 10 interviews to get my first job in Shanghai.
What I do
My role is a junior analyst, and I have to work on the corporate finance of my company. My duties include preparing the financial report; planning and analysing company's finance; building financial models, as well as gathering financial information. Sometime I have to be involved in business development as well.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Degree skills:
In terms of knowledge, what I learned is not quite relevant to my job, as my course focussed more on market research. However, my course has equipped me with analysing and learning capability, which I find really useful in my career.
What I like most
To build up a financial model, I have learned how to gather financial information from different channels, which I find really useful.
What I like least
In general the working hour is quite long, I have to work for 10 hours per day. I hope my working hours can be shorter when I am more familiar with my work.
