A day in the life of a Facebook API Manager in the United Kingdom
My career history
I have spent three years with the same company. I began as a media assisatant working with the Search Engine Marketing team, before transferring to Facebook marketing.
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I'd like to stay in the same sector for at least the next 5 years, continuing to learn different aspects of online marketing.
My advice to students considering work
The sky is the limit - Having a degree from York is recognised and will help you to get a foot in the door, but from then on you have to make your own luck.
What I do
As an agency we are responsible for planning our clients' Facebook activity from an advertising point of view and managing these campaigns.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Degree skills:
My course at York was Mathematics, and whilst there's no need for 4 page proofs of equations, the logical thinking and organisation skill I learnt at York have come in very handy.
Extracurricular skills:
This is a job where a lot of contact is required with other employees in the company and clients. Having previously worked in the hospitality sector I already had a good understanding of how to deal with people in a calm way.
What I like most
The people are lovely to work with and I enjoy the fast pace of development working in such a new industry.
What I like least
I dislike the long hours.
