My advice to students considering work
Planning for life after York starts from day one of university life. York offers a vast range of opportunities to develop new skills (societies, sports, languages, teaching, the York award) so there is something for everyone.
What I do
As an Account Executive at a small communications company I was fully involved in both political and corporate communications projects. I drafted speeches, articles, press releases as well as campaign leaflets for local elections. I was responsible for the coordination with external associates (web designers, graphic designers, journalists) and I helped organize events such as press conferences.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Degree skills:
My drafting and presentation skills proved invaluable while I was working as an Account Executive with Spin Communications.
Extracurricular skills:
Communication, creativity and presentation skills that I developed through York Award and YSIS proved particularly useful.
What I like most
What I liked most about my job is that no two days were the same. Every day I had the opportunity to learn something new.
