A day in the life of a Senior Personal Support Advisor in the United Kingdom
What I do
The main role is housing support for young people leaving care. It involves meeting young people on roughly a weekly basis, helping them gain the skills to live independently, guiding them through the transition of leaving their children's home or foster care, and helping them manage with the practical, emotional and financial difficulties of living on their own for the first time. My role also includes supervising other support workers, and management tasks.
What I like most
I like the feeling when things go well, and you can see the progress and successes of the young people, as a result of the input you have had.
What I like least
It is difficult to work with with young people who are forced to live on their own before they are ready for it, and the difficulties that result from that.
