A day in the life of a Research Engineer in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

Personal contacts

The recruitment process

I completed an online application through BBC jobs, and then had a 2 stage interview, testing both technical problem solving and experience to determine my suitability for the role.

My advice to students considering work

Don't waste your life - build things, do things, create. Make sure you have something to show for your time whatever it is you do.

What I do

I am currently working to design the TV studio of the future which means I'm spending most of my time programming. Other than that, side projects involving wireless comms, kinect interaction, digital art and sending HD cameras round roller coasters.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Degree subject, level and transferable skills were all essential.

Extracurricular skills:
I developed skills in sound recording and video production.
