A day in the life of a Applications Scientist in the United Kingdom
Courses taken since graduation
SCS Diploma in Cosmetic Science
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I would like to continue in my role to gain more subject knowledge then move into a position of management.
My advice about working in my industry
Look at all opportunities within a scientific/development role - it's not always about the pharma companies and there are a lot of small chemical companies in the UK you never hear about - if you look hard enough you'll find them.
What I do
If my current project was to design a pack then typically a day would involve making up a formulation, measuring stability, pH, viscosity. If I was working on a new product I would be carrying out development work which would relate to the product e.g. its ability to emulsify or solubilise a variety of ingredients. I would interact with colleagues and managers alike.
Skills I use and how I developed them
I think the subject I studied and other skills I obtained while at university helped me get the role. Although important, I don't think my degree classification was key.
What I like most
In my job I get to meet a lot of people and travel to a wide number of places.
