Where I hope to be in 5 years
I hope to continue my career in Big Four firms for the foreseeable future, working my way up to a more senior position.
My advice to students considering work
If possible, apply for internships/work experience programmes during your second summer (for 3 year courses). I think these are particularly common for accountancy and finance careers.
Keep an open mind about exactly which part of accountancy you would like to end up in - I never imagined I would enjoy being a tax advisor!
My advice about working in my industry
Apply for internships and keep an open mind about exactly which part of accountancy you would like to end up in - I never imagined I would enjoy being a tax advisor!
What I do
I work in a large team of tax specialists, advising on private equity deals, public listings and international transactions. My day-to-day role includes liaising with overseas colleagues, drafting reports and analysing technical issues.
My employer has also paid for me to sit the ACA exams, meaning I am now a qualified chartered accountant.
What I like most
I like the wide variety of daily tasks I am able to be involved with and the level of responsibility available to me.
What I like least
Working in M&A, often working alongside investment banks, I am often required to work late into the night on highly pressured projects.
