A day in the life of an iOS Developer in the United Kingdom
Where I hope to be in 5 years
In the future I would like to become a technical lead on a project and possibly become a technical architect, ensuring aspects across multiple projects all interact properly together.
My advice to students considering work
Make a list of all the employers your interested in working for (mine included over 200). Make a few different CVs tailored to different types of employment (e.g. I had an audio CV, a software CV and a hardware CV with subtle differences between them to make them more appropriate for different jobs). This should allow you to apply for loads of jobs, giving you the most opportunity to get employed!
I would also advise you to build your own stuff and get it on Github to show to potential employers. Get involved in the local developer community, attending workshops and meetups...

What I do
I'm a software engineer on the mobile applications team of around 15 people including 3 iOS and 4 android developers. I'm involved in all aspects of the software development cycle as we program in a test driven manner. This involves daily stand ups to discuss progress on the project, interacting with designers to make sure the app is shaping up properly and handing over finished work to the QA team to give it the final thumbs up.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Extracurricular skills:
Important skills included:
Skills in the Objective C programming language which I learnt on the job;
General logical skills for solving programming problems;
People skills in order to communicate technical problems to non-technical people.
What I like most
I enjoy the satisfaction of seeing all the hard work go 'live'.
What I like least
I don't enjoy long drawn out meetings.
