My career history
I have worked in actuarial pensions consulting since graduation; this is my second employer, although I moved location once within my first employer
Courses taken since graduation
Fellow of Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
My advice to students considering work
Research the actuarial profession and the employers you apply to before interview. Being an actuary is a very rewarding career, both intellectually and financially. There are many areas to work in, and I like that it is continually evolving so that you always need to keep up-to-date / you are always learning.
My advice about working in my industry

What I do
I am now a senior actuary, advising clients on everything pensions related, as well as carrying out research for my employer, and running a number of IT projects.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Extracurricular skills:
Maths and IT, particularly Excel skills are vital, but IT skills can develop on the job. Communication skills are also vital for those who wish to progress as a consulting actuary. If you get the chance to present to a group of people, take it, as all experience is helpful.
What I like most
I enjoy talking to clients and finding solutions to their pensions problems.
What I like least
Sometimes there is too much non-client work.
