My advice to students considering work
Don't narrow your goals or objectives for working life, you will be more successful if you can mould your decisions based on circumstance and opportunity. Don't think "I don't want this job because it's not XYZ" you never know where a good opportunity will take you...
The TFTV department at York Uni has brilliant links with industry, and I got my start through one of these links. My advice would be to ask lecturers and tutors if they have contacts or links in the industry - they're always happy to help out if they can. Once an opportunity comes up - show enthusiasm for it, put yourself forward confidently and you'll be rewarded.

What I do
I supervise a team of recent graduates in completing visual effects work for Film and TV. As well as completing visual effects work myself, day-to-day my role involves distributing work within the team, reviewing finished work and work in progress. I am also the first contact for the team, dealing with clients and producers regarding the work in hand.
What I like most
I enjoy the variety in my job - every day is different and I believe monotony is the worst thing you can have in a job.
What I like least
Sometimes the mundane tasks can drag, but you have to try to maintain the same level of enthusiasm for the boring tasks as the more interesting ones.
