A day in the life of a Localisation Assistant in Japan

Don’t restrict your possible positions and a career only by the title of your course or subject. Any study and experience at the University can be helpful for your future.

Briefly describe the organisation you work for

Anker is a Chinese electronics company. The company is known for producing computer and mobile peripherals such as phone chargers, power banks, earbuds, headphones, speakers, charging cables, projectors, vacuum cleaners, security cameras and more under its multiple brands.

What do you do?

Localisation; reviewing translated manuals, apps UI, and conducting product tests

Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

English skills, communication and negotiation skills with non-Japanese colleagues

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

Yes, it is different from what I initially thought. But I realised that I use the skills that I got during the course, and the whole experience in York helps a lot in my everyday work.

Describe your most memorable day at work

As we can immediately and directly see our customers reviews, a good review really motivates me as well as a negative one always reminds me of how my work can influence the customer experience.

What’s your work environment and culture like?

Fast speed, respective, friendly, flexible, fresh, rational

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

I’m not sure if I can call it an extracurricular, but I travelled a lot by myself, and improved my communication skills.

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

Don’t restrict your possible positions and a career only by the title of your course or subject. Any study and experience at the University can be helpful for your future.
