A day in the life of a Teaching Fellow in China

How studying in the UK affected my job seeking

How I searched for jobs:
I used the following website: bbs.yingjiesheng.com
Also, I cold-called a few companies asking for HR's email address.

Attitudes to study in the UK:
Highly valued a degree from outside China, I was asked about my volunteer experience while taking the YSIS programme, my dissertation, my project experience and student society experience.

Challenges in looking for jobs:
Yes there was an impact in studying outside my home country. Some employers do not know much about UK universities. I also have less networking opportunities.

The recruitment process

I took part in a one day assessment center after filling out an application form.

Where I hope to be in 5 years

I would like to go on to further study to do a PhD in education, or go into industry.

My advice to students considering work

Try to gain some overseas work experience in UK, try to find an internship during holiday. The no profit sector is a new field in China, try to connect with more alumni to see if working here sounds attractive for you.
