A day in the life of a Lecturer and Research Fellow in Medicine in the United Kingdom
Courses taken since graduation
Mini MBA in Drug Development, INSEAD Business School
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I hope to combine academic research with the early-stage drug discovery and development in the context of chronic inflammatory conditions.
My advice to students considering work
Do not be afraid of (politely) approaching people or companies with whom you'd like to work!
There is a big drive in medical research and early drug discovery to link disciplines. So make the most of your combinatorial skillsets (eg: Biology & Computing; Biology & Maths, etc.).
My advice about working in my industry

What I do
I am responsible for driving the development of multiple pre-clinical research projects in the lab, focussed on a better understanding of human inflammatory diseases.
I am also responsible for teaching undergraduate medical students, in both large classes and small group tutorials.
In addition I am involved in the pre-clinical development of a novel drug target for Crohn's disease, as well as in the process of founding and spinning out a Biotech company from Oxford, focussed on improving vaccine adjuvants.
What I like most
No day is the same!
What I like least
Medical research takes a long time.
