A day in the life of a Barrister in the United Kingdom
My advice to students considering work
Think very carefully about whether you are right for the bar. A huge number of people apply each year and the competition is fierce.
My advice about working in my industry
Do mini-pupillages at barrister's chambers. Apply for scholarships from the Inns of Court.
Other advice
Your degree result is, unfortunately, quite important.
What I do
I'm a barrister specialising in public, planning, environmental and regulatory law
How I started my business
I started as a pupil barrister in 2009
What inspired me
It is the most exciting job and you are your own boss.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Written analysis and oral advocacy
What I like most
The excitement
What I like least
The stress and pressure. If you get it wrong you can be personally sued for negligence.
What surprised me most
How much of your time is spent doing your VAT and tax when you're self-employed
