A day in the life of a Immuno-Oncology Marketing in Spain
My education in pharmacy and biotechnology as well as family members that work in the Pharma Industry has led me to choose this path as a career choice.
Briefly describe the organisation you work for
BMS is a multinacional Pharma Company with a patient-focused approach. II would emphazise innovative treatments and friendly work-culture.
What do you do?
I work as a trainee in the Immuno-Oncology marketing department. I oversee the brand strategy of treatments for Thoracic Tumors and support the department in other projects.
Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
My education in pharmacy and biotechnology as well as family members that work in the Pharma Industry has led me to choose this path as a career choice.
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
It's very similar to what I thought it would be
Describe your most memorable day at work
My most memorable day at work was when I developed and led a training activity for the commercial team. It was my very own project and it had great results.
Are there any challenges associated with your job?
It's a highly regulated industry. I find that an ethical approach and attention to detail are a must.
What’s your work environment and culture like?
It's very collaborative and friendly. There is a lot of opportunity to get involved in other departments to learn new approaches.
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
I was part of a research team in my last two years. I learned patience, consistency and problem-solving as small set-back would come up regularly.
What would you like to do next with your career?
I would like to take on more responsibility whether I continue my growth in pharmaceutical marketing or move to other departments such as Market access or sales. I'm also open to a change of location.
What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?
Patience and consistency in the job search are very important to succeed. Also, an early start never hurts.
What topics from students are you happy to answer questions on?
As a recent addition to the workforce, I can guide you through the first steps of finding the first job and the expectations of an entry-level position. More specifically, I can provide insights into the Spanish pharmaceutical market and its regulations.
