The application process

It was very informal, I sent a copy of my CV to my now supervisor, had an informal interview and was then offered the place.

Why I continued studying

I decided to do a PhD when I was half way through my MSc course in Toxicology at University of Birmingham. I enjoyed both chemistry and toxicology and I wanted to develop my knowledge and learn new skills in the laboratory environment.

What my course is like

The lab I work in is very friendly and relaxed and this makes it really easy to ask questions - even if they sound really silly!

How I have funded my studies

I am funded partly by the BBSRC and partly by industry.

My advice to students considering further study

Really think about what you want to do in the future - post graduate study isn't for everyone. I would make the most of your time at York - get involved with societies as it looks great on your CV.
