Why I continued studying
I continued studying for two reasons:
1) Mandarin is useful as it's already widely spoken and is becoming increasingly more useful - in my private life as well as in my career, Mandarin might become useful at a certain point (I do not expect any direct career benefit from speaking Mandarin)
2) I have an interest in the language and in Asia
What my course is like
Roughly half a day of Mandarin classes.
How I have funded my studies
Self-funded / parental support
What I like most
Whatever I learn is immediately applicable.
What I like least
It can be draining to study a language every day.
My advice to students considering further study
Unless you have the security of a job offer down the road, consider anything that doesn't directly heighten your employability as a hindrance rather than a benefit.
