A day in the life of a Service Delivery Training Coordinator in the United Kingdom
My career history
Nov 2011 - Jan 2012: Unpaid work experience with Ocado via the Job Centre;
Feb 2012 - July 2013: Recruitment & Training Administrator;
July 2013 - Sept 2013: Training Co-ordinator;
Sept 2013: HR Team Manager.
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I would like to stay within Ocado and work my way up the career ladder. I think I have made successful advancements already and am excited to see what the next few years bring!
My advice to students considering work
Make the most of the careers centre and all the courses they have to offer. Definitely do the York Award - this is one of my biggest regrets, I definitely should have done it! The more extracurricular experience on your CV such as courses, York Award, charity work, societies etc, the better your chances at finding employment.
My advice about working in my industry
Do you research on the company you're applying to, this is massively important and may be what sets you apart from the rest. Get as much experience as you can in the sector and be passionate about what you do. Graduate Schemes are a great way in too and to learn about several areas.
What I do
I am currently the Service Delivery Training Co-ordinator for Ocado. This involves organising all the Driving and Customer Service training for all of our drivers. To do this I manage the roster for the Advanced Driving Instructors (ADIs) and Customer Service (CS) Trainers, liaising with 11 sites around the country and keeping KPIs up to date.
Skills I use and how I developed them
My MRes in Psychology helped with my people skills and my data analysis experience 100% aided me in getting my current job.
Extracurricular skills:
My telephone manner and people management skills I developed in my current role and go a long way in the corporate world. You work with people everyday so understanding them and keeping them on side is a massive must.
What I like most
Everyday is a challenge and full of problem-solving. The fast growing industry keeps you on your toes and it takes a large amount of team work to make it work.
What I like least
It can be demanding and a high-pressure environment, but if you keep calm and organised, it can be rewarding.
