A day in the life of a Kumon Training Director- Bicester/Oxford-Botley/Banbury/Witney in the United Kingdom

Kumon Training Director

How I looked for work

I had done Kumon and completed the programme so was asked to work for them.

How I found out about the job

I had done Kumon and completed the programme so was asked to work for them

The recruitment process

Was employed straight away given my experience with the programme and how I'd been observed when doing my Kumon there. Training followed.

My advice about working in my industry

It's so satisfying to see your work have an effect. At Kumon whether it is helping a child learn his times tables and then the next week see him recite them all immediately, or helping an A level student understand complicated mathematical functions, you always feel like you're making a difference.

What I do

I assist and help organise the training of new staff at the Kumon Witney, Oxford-Botley, Bicester and Banbury centres. This is due to my expertise and experience within the organisation, having worked there for 5 years now.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Communication- Talking and teaching children from as young as 4 to 18. Children come from various backgrounds, educations and countries, and may have learning difficulties, so adjusting my method of approach to each child is essential. I also talk to other members of staff, and parents of children, so my presentation skills change for each individual.
Initiative/leadership- Sometimes I will be the most senior member of staff in the class, so have to organise the classroom. Often with young children, unpredictable situations can arise so I have to cope with this and manage the staff effectively to deal with these problems
Team Work- I am one part of a team with Kumon. Recently, although being in York, I assisted in the running and organisation of an Awards Ceremony, which was attended by over 800 students and parents.

What I like most

The communicating and unpredictability of it all. It's never a standard day.

What I like least

Misbehaving children
