A day in the life of a Operations Analyst in the United Kingdom
Full-time job offer received upon completion of the summer internship with J.P. Morgan in London
My advice to international students looking for work in the UK
Make sure you understand the recruiting cycle as well as the requirements specified in the job advertisement. Also ensure the employer can sponsor a visa in early stage.
My advice to students considering work
Do more research into the industry in which you want to work, as most employers do not come to our campus.
My advice about working in my industry
Start to considering applying for work experience opportunities as early as possible e.g. Spring insight day/week or summer internship.

What I do
During the summer internship I was placed in the Global Credit Risk Middle Office helping three different teams within the office e.g. Treasury Services, Financial Institutions Group and Counterparty Credit Infrastructure and Capital Middle Office.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Communication/interpersonal skills - key to anyone working in any Operations role; being able to communicate with different people across the world. (Be confident and nice, also ask questions)
Analytical and problem-solving skills - essential skills for people working in Risk Management as it requires to process a large volume of data on daily basis as well as identify and solve the risk issues within the systems. (Learn from the basic excel skills as they will be useful when approaching the issues or analysing data)
Attention to details - making sure the importance is understood especially within a multinational bank processing $6 trillion of payments per day.
What I like most
The Operational Analyst Development Programme provides well-organised and valuable training plus three rotations among different teams.
Competitive compensation
What surprised me most
How nice everyone is within the bank
