A day in the life of a Technical support engineer in Denmark

technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and effective communication.

Briefly describe the organisation you work for

As a Technical Support Engineer in Denmark, my day typically involves troubleshooting and resolving technical issues for clients, mainly related to CCTV and security systems. I start by reviewing support tickets and prioritizing urgent cases. I then work on diagnosing problems, which may involve testing devices, analyzing data, and communicating with clients to better understand the issue. In addition, I collaborate with internal teams like R&D or sales to provide comprehensive solutions. Throughout the day, I may conduct remote troubleshooting sessions and provide guidance to clients to optimize their systems. It’s a dynamic role that requires technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and effective communication.

What do you do?

I work for Hikvision, a global leader in video surveillance and security solutions. The company is known for its cutting-edge technology in CCTV systems, AI-based video analytics, and smart home products. With a presence worldwide, Hikvision serves clients in various industries, including retail, banking, transportation, and public security. In Denmark, our regional office operates in the HIKE region, where we focus on providing technical support to local clients and ensuring their security systems run efficiently. My role as a Technical Support Engineer involves assisting clients with product setup, troubleshooting, and providing long-term solutions.

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

1. Network Early and Leverage Connections

Building a network during your time at York is crucial. For example, I made great connections during my term as GSA President. Engaging with fellow students, staff, and alumni opened doors to mentorship and career advice. Use platforms like LinkedIn and York for Life to connect with professionals in your field. Reach out for informational interviews – you’d be surprised how willing people are to help.

2. Develop Digital and Transferable Skills

Regardless of your degree, acquiring digital and transferable skills is key. During my studies, I ensured I upskilled in areas like data analysis and remote collaboration. These have proven invaluable, especially in my role at Hikvision, where I am applying technical expertise daily. You can enhance these skills through online courses, like those on LinkedIn Learning.
