Sarah is a PhD student at SEI York and the Department of Environment and Geography. Her research involves diversifying participation in citizen science. Sarah’s PhD research works with the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, investigating the demographics of the participants in their digital citizen science programme and understanding motives and barriers to taking part. Her research will work on re-designing the citizen science project to increase diverse participation in the project. She is supervised by Dr. Sarah West and Dr. Steve Cinderby at SEI, and Dr. Sarah Phillips at RBG Kew.
Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in physics and philosophy, and a master’s degree in science communication from the University of Sheffield. Her focus in her education and work has been on increasing diversity and engagement in STEM fields. As a part-time student, she spends the other half of her time working for Stemettes, a social enterprise working to bring women and non-binary people into STEM.
