Sarah Foster is a PhD researcher at SEI’s York Centre and Department of Environment and Geography. Her research interests include environmental education, arts-based research, and climate action. Her PhD research is focused on the use of arts-based methods as an effective tool in environmental education with youth to aid in eco-anxiety, agency and sustainable behaviours. She is working with creative practitioners, eco-societies in secondary schools and other youth groups to observe and facilitate arts-based methods around environmental sustainability and climate change. She is under the supervision of Dr. Steve Cinderby and Dr. Sarah West in SEI and Dr. Lynda Dunlop in the Department of Education.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Central Methodist University, and a Master of Science in Biology specializing in Conservation Education from Missouri State University. She has worked in various conservation education settings in the U.S. as well as here in the U.K. Since starting her PhD, she has served as an organiser of the annual Department of Environment and Geography PGR Conference, the SEI PhD Representative, and a Graduate Teaching Assistant for various modules. She is currently helping to develop and deliver a York Interdisciplinary Module with SEI and ESAY (Environmental Sustainability at York) around Sustainability and Policy.
