CCAC Science Initiative Small-Scale Funding Agreement

In recent years, short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) have been widely recognized as one of the major threats to climate and human well-being. On the other hand, action on SLCPs provides extraordinary opportunities to mitigate near-term climate change as well as generate huge co-benefits for human health, food security and vulnerable ecosystems. Governments and stakeholders reacted to the challenge by establishing a global initiative – the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) – in February 2012. Successful planning and implementing the Coalition work heavily depends on further scientific assessment of SLCPs, especially in priority regions and sectors. United Nations Environment Programme Member States also asked that the assessment of SLCPs be continued, and that emerging science be reviewed and conveyed to governments, international organizations and other stakeholders.SEI has been selected to implement this task because its track record on SLCPs research, its recognized thematic expertise, its strong global networks, its multi-disciplinary approach, and its experience advising governments, business and development agencies.
