This project followed on from a previous scoping study to develop a tool to model carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions form the education sector in England.
The Excel spreadsheet tool uses a hybrid bottom-up approach to model school emissions resulting from procurement, transport and buildings. The tool takes into account emissions by pupils and staff commuting to school as well as emissions resulting from other school travel e.g. trips.
New school buildings are built to standards which have much lower carbon emissions and this is reflected in the modelling approach. Different policy measures can be evaluated over a 50 year timeframe.
