Interdisciplinary collaborations between scientists, technologists, social scientists, philosophers and theologians have revealed deeply submerged yet powerful narratives at work beneath public discourse on controversial technologies. I consider two examples of collaborations with human geographers, on nanotechnology and GM crops, in detail. Resources for narrative analysis and reflection are, surprisingly, found in the ancient wisdom-literature text The Book of Job, which has received more philosophical attention than any other biblical book.
