5 year EPSRC funded PDRA position in robotics at York
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate position (Grade 6) in the Department of Electronics to work on the new EPSRC project RoboCalc. You will work primarily on the development of computer-based simulations of robotic systems, the integration of formal methods tools developed elsewhere in the project to the simulation tool chain and develop a hardware demonstrator in collaboration with various industrial partners.
To carry out this work, you will have expertise in mobile and autonomous systems, and specifically be experienced in the development of simulations and their translation to physical robotic systems. Experience in collective (or swarm) robotics would be desirable. You should have outstanding programming skills and be confident in communicating to researchers from software engineering.
You should have experience of developing and analysing robotic control systems (in simulation and hardware), and be keen to promote robotics in the context of outreach to the general public. A promising and upcoming record of high-quality recent publications of research work is essential.
A PhD in Computer Science/Electronic Engineering with thesis in the area of autonomous mobile robotics or PhD in Computer Science/Electronic Engineering and other relevant experience in the area of autonomous mobile robotics is essential.
The position is available from 1 September 2015 and for a period of up to 54 months. Please note the closing date for applications is 17th July, 2015.
Informal enquiries may be made in the first instance to Professor Jon Timmis (jon.timmis@york.ac.uk).
