A paper based on research conducted at YRL has today been published in Frontiers in Robotics and AI. The paper, which discusses the ARDebug software for augmented reality assisted debugging and tracking of robotic swarms, builds on work carried out by Alistair Jewers, an undergraduate student who graduated last year, as his final year research project, and also Charlotte Arndt, a current MSc Intelligent Robotics student.

Over the summer we have done some building work in the robotics laboratory to build a new dedicated teaching and classroom area, with 10 workstations and new bench equipment and tools for students to undertake robotics work.

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate position (Grade 6) in the Department of Electronics to work on the new EPSRC project RoboCalc. You will work primarily on the development of computer-based simulations of robotic systems, the integration of formal methods tools developed elsewhere in the project to the simulation tool chain and develop a hardware demonstrator in collaboration with various industrial partners.

Two new papers have been published in Nature, the international weekly science journal, by researchers involved with York Robotics Laboratory. Dr Danesh Tarapore, from York’s Department of Electronics, has a paper titled “Robots that can adapt like animals”, and Prof Gusz Eiben, a Visiting Professor attached to the Intelligent Systems Group (Electronics) has a paper titled "From evolutionary computation to the evolution of things".

Professor Jon Timmis has presented a series of shows "What does biology have to do with robotics?" at the Royal Society Summer Science Event in London. In total over 650 pupils and teachers from many schools across the country were invited to watch the interactive talk at the annual display of cutting-edge scientific research. The half-hour talk highlighted how biology influences robotics research with a number of demonstrations, videos and audience participation.
