How the public can shape our research
As a member of the public, you can play an active role in shaping and supporting our research.
This means working alongside our researchers in different ways, often to determine what is researched, and how that research is designed, carried out and disseminated. Your involvement helps us to understand your personal ‘lived’ experience and to then tailor our research to better meet the needs and priorities of others like you.
This makes our research much more relevant and meaningful, shaping and strengthening it to bring about ‘real world’ change and improve people’s lives. Here are some of the ways you can get involved in University of York research:
- Help develop research priorities and questions
- Give feedback on documents developed by researchers
- Serve as a member of a research project advisory or steering group
- Act as a public co-applicant on research applications
- Participate in workshops with researchers and other research stakeholders
- Shape how research findings are shared
How we work and what we do
We work hard to support and champion public involvement and participatory research across the whole of the University.
Here are some of the ways we help members of the public to:
- Understand how they can meaningfully contribute to research.
- Navigate their interactions with researchers and the needs of different research projects.
- Access research involvement opportunities.
- Providing independent advice and support.
- Promoting and developing new policies and processes that make it easier for the public and researchers to work together.
- Celebrating the impact and benefits of public involvement and participatory research for all involved.
