Expectations of PGR programmes by practice

All work submitted by a PGR for final examination (ie including the thesis and/or alternative assessment format submitted for a PGR programme by practice) must meet the expectations set out under ‘Requirements for all assessment formats’ in Section 12 of the Policy on Research Degrees (PoRD). This includes the expectations that the work must:

  • meet the criteria for the degree on which the PGR is enrolled (Section 2 of the PoRD), including in terms of original contribution to the field (PhD and MPhil)
  • form a coherent body of interrelated work
  • meet the University’s standards with respect to research integrity
  • be chiefly the PGR’s own, and where work has been undertaken in collaboration with others this is explicitly acknowledged in the submission in accordance with University guidance
  • be derived from research undertaken whilst enrolled on their PGR programme
  • not have been previously submitted for any degree or other qualification at the University or elsewhere.
