Beth's thesis was on ‘The Idea of Medieval Heresy in Seventeenth-Century France’. Her research interests include the religious and intellectual culture of early modern Europe, focusing on early modern France and the Holy Roman Empire. After doing a BA at the University of Cambridge, she moved to the University of York, where completed her MA, examining French print culture in sixteenth-century Strasbourg. Her PhD focused upon the seventeenth-century context of the Doat commission, and how interest in medieval heresy reflected contemporary concerns over persecution and toleration. She successfully defended her thesis in December 2019
