University Archive

Located in the Borthwick Institute for Archives, the University Archive is the repository for the archives created by the University of York (from its foundation in 1963). It also holds the archives of the University's predecessor body, the York Academic Trust (from 1953). The archives chart the origins and development of the University, recording its principal activities, functions and decisions.

Included among the Archive's holdings are:

• records relating to the foundation of the University (UOY/F),
• the University's committee archive (UOY/M),
• University publications (UOY/UP),
• student publications (UOY/SP),
• archives relating to Southern Africa (grown from those originally associated with the University's former Centre for Southern African Studies)
• the records of the York University Design Unit (YUDU), and
• University Library Manuscripts (UL).
