Title of Research:

Caught between Universal Standards and Local Contexts: York as a Human Rights City and the Search for Human Rights Alternatives

Brief overview of research topic:

Marynka’s research examines the tensions between universal aspirations of human rights and local context and priorities. She hopes to contribute to a better understanding of the role human rights cities play in addressing the crisis facing human rights that resulted from globalization. Marynka will also explore the ways in which human rights at city level resist not just globalization but elements of human rights itself. She is based at the University of York’s Centre for Applied Human Rights and the Department of Politics.
