Norm contestation: Security and Regional governance in ECOWAS
This thesis considers the question of norm contestation within regional organisations alongside the broader understanding of how and why institutional ideas and practices develop. The regional institution under focus is the ECOWAS. By examining the development of specific regional norms and practices either diffused from a specific norm giver or originated from a multi-complex process this research aims to determine the influence on regionalism. This thesis contributes to the growing debate for the acknowledgement of multiple manifestations of regionalism and accommodation of diverse and complex regionalism processes specifically as it relates to the regions in Africa.
