The emotional substrates of environmental preferences
As the global effects of climate change grow more prominent, climate threats will proliferate. My research explores how we respond emotionally to the threats posed by climate change, and how these emotional responses shape our environmental attitudes and behaviours.
Specifically, I am exploring whether fear, anxiety and enthusiasm induced by climate change will prompt individuals to adopt more pro-environmental attitudes and motivate environmentally-conscious political participation and lifestyle changes. In doing so, I hope to shed light on the emotional underpinnings of environmental attitudes and how emotions might help facilitate the widespread transformation of thinking required to combat climate change.
