Tracing Fragmentation and Cohesion: The Cases of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People's Army's (FARC-EP) Breakaways During the Colombian Peace Process (2012 - 2016).
My research focuses on the internal dynamics of non-state armed organizations, rebel fragmentation and cohesion, and peace processes. I explore the internal and external processes that impacted the FARC-EP's breakaways during the peace negotiations with the Colombian government in Havana, Cuba (2012-2016). My work is based on life histories of ex-combatants, interviews with peace negotiators, practitioners, local leaders, and the military, in-depth fieldwork and archival work. With my research and as part of the Centre for the Comparative Study of Civil War (Civil War Paths), I intend to contribute to the organizational turn in civil war studies and propose a novel understanding of how non-state armed organizations transform.
