Complex Border Problems and Enclaves in Fergana Valley (Central Asia)
The fact that political borders were not drawn in accordance with ethnicities in Central Asia, notably in Fergana Valley in which borders of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan intersected, has caused serious problems from the 1990s onward. Accommodating citizens of neighbouring countries and different minority groups within their borders, countries in the region suffer border problems with each other. In addition to the controversial borders, nine enclaves in the region sometimes tend to cause conflicts.
Burak's project focuses on why Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have not been able to resolve existing problems with each other so far.
