Ignacio was a Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of York. Ignacio holds a DPhil in Politics from the University of Oxford (Nuffield College). Ignacio is also a Doctor Member of the Juan March Institute (Madrid), where he received a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences. Prior to joining the Department of Politics at York, Ignacio was a Research Associate at the University of Manchester.
Ignacio's dissertation, The Politics of Distribution, was awarded the 2012 Arthur McDougall Fund Prize for the best dissertation on elections, electoral systems or representation. Part of his doctoral work was also conducted at Princeton University, where he was a visiting researcher (2009-2010).

Ignacio's research interests lie at the intersection between comparative political economy, and electoral behaviour and combines the use of observational data, survey experiments, and quasi-experimental methods. He is the PI of the ESRC project “Democratic Dissatisfaction in Southern Europe” and is involved in other projects on the political consequences of the economic crisis, globalization, distributive politics and political geography.
