We are approaching the end of term and I hope you have all kept well. We have some fantastic events planned for this week, including a gathering to celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow and a Politics Society event on global supply chains.

Events

International Women’s Day

Tuesday 8th March 12:00-14:00pm, Vanbrugh College, Common Room

To celebrate international women’s day, this event will facilitate conversations over hot drinks and bites to eat. Themes include gender and political economy, women and disability rights and women’s rights in Afghanistan. 

Annual General Meeting of the Politics Society

Tuesday 8th March 18:00pm, D/L/006

All politics students are welcome to come to this meeting. As a student, you are member of the Politics Society and have a right to vote at the AGM. The event will start with constitutional amendments, followed by the election of the new Social Events Officers, External Events Officer, Departmental Officer, Year 1 Officers, Year 2 Officer, LGBTQ+ Officer, Ordinary Officer, Women and Non-Binary Officer, BAME Officer, Press & Publicity Officers, YPR Editor, YPR Deputy Editor, Podcast Officers, and Research officers.

Global Supply Chains: Broken or Bending

Wednesday 9th of March 6.30pm, AEW/104

This event organised by the Politics Society looks at global supply chains in a year filled with issues in global trade and supply, such as the famous blockage of the Suez Canal with the Evergiven. To give us some context on the current crisis,  Ms. Paulina Flores Martinez of the University of York, Dr. Silke Trommer of the University of Manchester and Dr. Jappe Eckhardt of the University of York are going to give short presentations. 

Putin’s War in Ukraine: A Historian’s View

Thursday 10th of March 19:00 - 20:00pm, SLB/118

This lecture by Dr. Shane O’Rourke seeks to place Putin's war in Ukraine in it's long and short term historical context. It will seek to understand the reasons behind President Putin's decision to launch the war and will offer some suggestions of the likely consequences of the war for Ukraine, Russia and the West.
