Today on our Instagram, we are having our first ever student takeover. Mel is an MA student & she will be talking about British racism. Mel will be answering your questions & talking from her own personal experiences. Head over to Instagram to have a look.
In light of recent events, the Anti-Racism Working Group has been set up by students in our Department to share resources, develop awareness, and build anti-racism into our practice as political scientists. The work of the Anti-Racism WG will begin this week with a series of weekly guest editors running our Departmental Instagram page each Thursday for the next four weeks. The guest editors will share resources but also respond to questions from students - so please do participate in order to maximise the impact of this important initiative. Each week will take on a new topic in the work of anti-racism. This Thursday, guest-edited by Mel, a student on the Applied Human Rights MA, the focus will be on black and mixed-race people’s experience of racism in the UK. In future weeks, topics will include intersectionality and allyship. The four weeks of Instagram guest editors will lead up to an event organised by the Working Group (week commencing 13th July) that will feature three black speakers, who will discuss racism against black people in professional environments.
