The Department has recently been awarded £1.1m through the University Strategy Investment Fund to establish the York Global Development Centre (YGDC).
Led by Professor Jean Grugel, the new Centre will support interdisciplinary research, underpinned by a firm commitment to social justice and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Centre will build upon York’s existing strengths in interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research, including in global health, global social policy, conflict/post-conflict research, livelihoods and sustainable development. It will draw on our current International Development Network (IDN) which brings together experts in global sustainable development from across all disciplines to support the delivery of world-leading global development research and build more equitable global futures.
The Centre and the Department will also lead in establishing a new suite of teaching programmes, including a BA in Global Sustainable Development. We are recruiting the first set of posts funded by the strategic investment now - A Lecturer in International Development and an Associate Lecturer in Development Politics.
