Kyrgyzstan Power Struggle: What’s next?

Kyrgyzstan, the country with Central Asia's most open but volatile political system, is in turmoil again. Following a flawed parliamentary election, protests and a power struggle in October, a new acting president Sadyr Japarov emerged in the country.  A new presidential election and a referendum on a new constitution beckon in January. Sixty people, including Japarov, have put themselves forward for the presidential election. The new constitution is being branded as a 'khansitution' due to the large powers that it gives the president. This ongoing struggle takes place against the Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to negatively affect the economy and stretch the capacity of the state to its limits.
