Speaker(s): Professor Charlie Jeffrey
We would like to invite you to the opening drinks of the 'Art of Politics' Trail on Monday the 23rd of October at 5pm in the lobby of Spring Lane Building. Prof. Charlie Jeffery, VC, will open the art trail and there will be presentations by contributing academics and artists.
The Art Trail was developed by academics Professor Sara de Jong and Professor Indrajit Roy (Department of Politics and International Relations) in collaboration with the University of York's art curator, Helena Cox and in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre and the Centre for Applied Human Rights. The art works were identified through an open call to all University of York staff engaging in research collaborations with artists, and include research from a wide variety of disciplines.
In particular, Derwent College is showcasing art specifically emerging from research by Politics staff including Sara de Jong, Indrajit Roy and Tallulah Lines, and in The Spring Lane Building there is more art inspired from Sara's research.
The Art of Politics Trail showcases artworks that have emerged from the University of York's academic-artistic collaborations. These artworks reflect our ongoing engagement with themes of social change, human rights, injustice, inequality, and development. Through photography, painting, poetry, short films, textile art and sculpture, researchers and artists provoke us to think deeply and critically about such urgently relevant topics as queer joy, autocracy and democracy, climate justice, gender-based violence, Covid-19, and the experiences of migrants and refugees that shape the present and future of humanity.
The short films that are part of the Art of Politics Trail will also be screened on the same evening from 18:30 hours in SLB/118. There will be the opportunity to chat with the relevant researchers throughout the evening.
We look forward to seeing you there! Please bring any interested colleagues and students.
Helena Cox, Sara de Jong and Indrajit Roy
