After a hard-fought 3-3 draw, victory against the 3rd Year team sealed on penalties.
Experience eventually triumphed over youth in the 2015 Department of Politics Staff vs Student match. Following a cagey opening, the 3rd Years took the lead when Kravitz forced home a low cross from close range. Staff drew level when Erol took advantage of a through ball from Carter, scoring with a tidy finish. With the break approaching, Pena was controversially judged to have handled in the area. Elliott confidently put away the resulting penalty, giving the 3rd Years a 2-1 half-time lead.
The 3rd Years started the second half strongly. Shortly after the restart Mumford rose well to meet Kravitz’s looping cross, powering his header into the Staff goal. However, from 3-1 down the Staff battled back well. Erol reduced the deficit after stealing possession out on the right, cutting in, and finishing low to the left. Erol completed the Staff comeback with a shot from the edge of the area, in the process tying up an impressive hat-trick. After a tight last few minutes, the game moved to penalties.
Davies and Kirby made one save each in the first five penalties. After Gater blazed over his sudden-death spot kick, Eriksson held his nerve to seal the Staff victory 6-5 on penalties
