Dr João Nunes has been awarded a Newton Mobility Grant for a project with Dr Rosana Curzel (Rural Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) on the Brazillian experience of the compulsory licensing (i.e. the breaking of patents) of antiretrovirals. It will explore whether the policy has led to better health outcomes and more efficient spending, and what the lessons are for global health governance. The project begins on 1st March and is supported by the Newton Fund, which aims to develop science and innovation partnerships that promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries.
